Rick is the original founder of Heartland Financial Group (now known as HFI Advisors). When he began the business, he was a full time counselor for Webb City School District. Rick did it the “old school” way, working nights and weekends to begin his insurance business. Since he was a teacher himself, he loved helping teachers and school staff with their financial questions & retirement planning.
He retired from the school district in 1997 in order to focus on expanding Heartland Financial Group. He grew the business to a multi-million dollar asset business.
In 2016, he sold the business to Patrick Scott. Rick continues to work part time, but as he would say, if it is a day ending in “Y”, you will find him on the golf course.
Rick and his wife Sue are avid Webb City sports fans and MSSU Lion supporters. They volunteer as advocates for Jasper County CASA and for many other civic and church activities. They are very active and love to bike, play pickleball, walk their dog, and ride their horse. Their daughter lives in California with her husband and two kids.
